Belfast – Resource Centre
Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland
The Belfast Resource Centre offers many opportunities for people affected be mental health issues, including social and leisure activities, personal development and support to access training, education and employment. We will use some of this funding to purchase art supplies so our service users can engage in art therapy, as well as outdoor games and picnic boxes so we can make use of local green spaces.
Pre Covid, service users would have enjoyed an annual trip to somewhere they wouldn’t have been able to go to on their own with the support from staff. A bus would have been hired and a group of clients would chose where they would like to go eg the Aviation Centre. We will therefore use the rest of the funding for a trip up the Antrim coast. This money would cover the cost of the bus hire plus lunch will be provided. Many of the clients have been isolating or have had little or no interaction with anyone the past few years, so by providing this day trip we would be helping clients re-engage with others, redevelop the friendships they had with other members and help improve their general well being.
Our photography group in Belfast Resource centre is a well-established group who enjoy using photography to express concerns and investigate coping strategies and learn from their peers. It helps them showcase their creativity and improve mood. They have designed a 2023 calendar and have chosen 12 photographs for it as well as around 50 photos which are to be made into a book. The book consists of around 50 photos and a poem by one of our service users.
