Diverse Cardiff – Social Navigation for BAME communities
Location: Cardiff, Wales
We want to recruit two social navigators to work in the Riverside area of Cardiff which has a high BAME population.
Working alongside Diverse Cymru, they will evolve the navigator role which aims to support people access non-clinical mental health support in the community, to ensure that it meets the needs of BAME communities who evidence shows are less likely to engage with traditional mental health services despite a higher prevalence of some mental illnesses. Evidence also shows that Covid-19 has had a greater impact on BAME communities in Wales, building on pre-existing disparities.
The project will build further evidence to support the roll out of navigators across Wales and the UK with the focus on adapting the role to meet the needs of BAME communities showing how the role can be further developed to ensure it reaches and supports all communities.
