Enabling outdoor therapy for people in distress
Location: Inverness, Scotland
The Distress Brief Intervention Service is run by Change Mental Health, one of our founding charities. This innovative service aims to provide a compassionate and effective response to people in distress, making it more likely that they will engage with and stay connected to services or support that may benefit them over time.
It gives people experiencing mental health distress somewhere to turn to, where frontline staff can support them, and help them connect to additional services to support their mental health in the longer term. Your funds will enable the purchase of equipment like outdoor furniture, heaters and blankets so frontline staff can run outdoor sessions for people who find themselves in distress. Being outdoors and in nature can benefit wellbeing, so being able to run outdoor sessions can be very helpful to staff supporting service users. Funds will also enable the purchase of new chairs that are easy to clean, improving sanitation and hygiene. This will all contribute enormously to create a safer and more pleasant environment for staff and service users.
