Using visual arts to explore mental health

Location: Dover, South East England

Your fundraising will enable service users of two important mental health services in Kent to explore their mental health through photography. The two services are Thanet Way Employment Services, which aims to promote social inclusion through employment opportunities, and Dover & Folkestone Peer Support, which provides support for people aged 17+ who have a common or severe mental illness.

This project will unite clients of both services to look at how the pandemic has affected mental health through the art of visual interpretation. Funds will be used to run a short course around photography, using everyday items to capture moments in time. Using a mermaid’s purse on the beach or an old drinks can as pin hole cameras to capture a moment through someone’s eye.. The final part would be for clients to produce a piece of art around the subject of loneliness, which would form an exhibition during Mental Health Awareness Week in May.
