World Mental Health Day 2022

World Mental Health Day is happening on Monday 10 October. The theme for this year, as set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is ‘making mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’ and we’re asking you to look after ‘Number 1’ when it comes to your mental health.

Looking after Number 1

With everything that is happening around us right now, it can be easy to feel powerless, but there are aspects of our life we can manage and control.

We want you to embrace what is in your power to start doing, stop doing or change – something that will support your mental health.

So, this World Mental Health Day, ask yourself… what can you do to make mental health your Number 1 priority?

What's in your circle of control?

When thinking about how to look after Number 1, a great place to start is visualising what’s in your ‘circle of control’. What aspects of your life can you make a priority? What brings meaning and comfort in your life? Are they within your control?

You’re sure to find something that within your circle of control that can bring about a positive impact on your mental health.

Prioritise Number 1

Take part in our Prioritise Mental Health activity

Use our Prioritise Mental Health board to support your mental health, and help others to, by filling in how you’re going to take time out to look after your wellbeing this World Mental Health Day.

Other ways to get involved

We want you to share what you're doing to make mental health a priority with others - whether you're doing something solo, with family, in school, at work or with your local community. Here are some simple ways to get involved.

Make time for a Power Hour!

On 10 October, we’re calling on employers to make mental health a priority by setting aside 60 minutes for a ‘Power Hour’ activity in your workplace. Whether it’s a lunch and learn, a Big Mental Health Get Together, an hour of reflection, a team building activity or a late start or early finish to the day – do something within your power for your people. Each moment counts. Looking for inspiration or want to tell us what you’ll be doing?

Double your donation

Amazing opportunity for your donation to have twice the impact via the Big Give’s Mental Health Match Fund.

If you donate to Mental Health UK via the Big Give between the 10th-24th October (up to £10,000) the donation will be matched.

Let other’s know about this fantastic opportunity to make your donations go further.

Connect with others on Clic

We believe that no one should be lonely or isolated. That’s why we set up Clic – our online community here for everyone’s mental health 24/7. Clic helps thousands of people feel more connected and less alone. By offering resources and facilitating a safe environment where people can chat online, Clic gives users the tools to not just manage their mental health, but to thrive too.

Fundraise and raise awareness

By fundraising for us, you are not only raising vital funds – you are spreading the message that mental health is a number one priority.

Anyone can be a fundraiser! You can find lots of support on our website:

Information and support

Mental health conditions

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a mental health condition you may be looking for more information. Our advice pages are a great place to learn more about a range of mental health conditions and the treatment and support available.

Conversation Guide: talking to someone about mental health

World Mental Health Day might be the first you decide to talk openly about mental health with a friend, family member or colleague. It can be tricky to know how to have that chat, or to find the ‘right’ words once you do. That’s exactly why we’ve created this conversation guide. We also have a mobile-friendly and printer-friendly version available.

Mental Health & Money Advice

We know that many people are feeling the strain as the cost of living continues to increase. That’s why we launched our cost of living information hub on our Mental Health & Money Advice website. On it, you’ll find information about how you can maintain your mental wellbeing at this time, alongside information on how to manage your money as your bills rise.

How our partners are making mental health a priority

We all know that an open, supportive and psychologically safe workplace improves workplace satisfaction, increases performance, and leads to a workforce with better mental health. Get inspiration from our partners on the initiatives they’ve put in place to bring mental health to the top of their agenda.
