Mental Health Awareness

Our aim is to shift the perspective on mental health problems and help attendees to understand: the impact they have on the up to 1 in 4 of the population, and how to approach conversations with people who may be living with a mental illness.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of mental health and mental illness
  • The effects of stigma and discrimination on people’s mental health
  • Common mental health conditions (stress, anxiety, depression) and less common mental health conditions (bipolar, schizophrenia, OCD)
  • How mental illness can manifest itself in day-to-day interactions
  • Confidence in holding a short exploratory conversation with someone who may be affected by a mental health problem and may be communicating their needs in complex ways
  • How stress can impact on your mental health
  • Where to find key sources of information on mental health

Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers

Our aim is to shift the perspective on mental health problems, understand the impact they have on up to 1 in 4 of the population and equip managers to respond appropriately and confidently to mental illness in the workplace, acting in-line with relevant legislation.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding mental health, mental illness and stigma
  • Common mental health conditions (stress, anxiety disorders (including
    OCD), depression) and less common mental health conditions (bipolar
    disorder and schizophrenia)
  • The prevalence and causes of mental ill health in the workplace
  • How mental illness can manifest itself in day-to-day interactions within the workplace
  • An understanding of how changes in behaviour can suggest a possible mental health condition, and ways of responding to this
  • Greater confidence in holding a conversation with a staff member who may be affected by a mental health problem and in handling the outcomes
  • The legal frameworks managers need to be aware of in the workplace when dealing with mental health
  • Where to find key sources of information on supporting mental health in the workplace, including Wellness and Recovery Action Plans (WRAP)
