  • Help people feel more confident reaching out to others for support

  • Promote small, practical ways to stay connected in everyday life

  • Explore how mobile phones can be used more meaningfully and supportively, encouraging real conversations

Make It a Call campaign

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week from 11–17 May, and amid continued year-on-year declines in mobile call time, iD Mobile, in partnership with Mental Health UK, is exploring the shift from calling to messaging and what it may reveal about the way we communicate today.

New research from iD Mobile and Mental Health UK suggests Britain is becoming a nation of silent communicators. While more than half of Brits say they wish they spoke to loved ones more often, many admit they default to messaging instead, even when a phone call would be better. From anxiety around interrupting someone to the convenience of texting, the findings reveal how hesitation around calling is quietly reshaping the way we connect, and what that could mean for our mental wellbeing.

In connection with the ‘Make It a Call’ campaign, iD Mobile will ensure that a financial contribution is made to Mental Health UK.

We are planning activity around key moments in the year, including Mental Health Awareness Week, with further opportunities to continue the conversation across other mental health awareness dates.

The focus is on reaching younger audiences, including Gen Z and millennials, through accessible, social-led content that encourages connection and reduces stigma.

By working together, we want to reach people in spaces they already use and trust, and support them to feel more connected.

At its core, this partnership is about making it easier for people to start conversations that can have a meaningful impact on how they feel, both for themselves and for others.

While we encourage people to connect over a phone call, we understand there can be certain barriers to doing so. If you are unable to make a call, there are other ways you can find support, including:
