Lorcan’s story
When Lorcan’s depression was at its worst, he struggled to leave the house and participate in daily life. With the support from Into Work, he now feels happier and in a job he loves.
"Take every opportunity given to you, even if you think it is out of your comfort zone."
I found Into Work through the mental health services in my local hospital. At the time, I was struggling with my health, confidence, and finding employment. I couldn’t cope with regular everyday activities, like maintaining basic hygiene or going outside. I found it hard to stay employed due to taking a lot of time off work for my mental health.
Into Work listened to my needs, built my confidence up, and helped me acquire employment in different sectors. Patrick and Celeste were incredibly helpful in helping me find work, preparing me for interviews, matching me to the right employers, and developing my CV. They would check up on me very often to find out how I was getting on and if I needed any additional support.
I struggled a lot with my confidence, but the staff helped me get into work that would push me out of my comfort zone. This included working in customer service at Heathrow Airport and as an activity instructor at a UK School Residential Camp.

Since accessing Into Work, my life has improved exponentially. I got the offer to move up North as an activity instructor, which has built my confidence up to tremendous levels. I’m meeting new people every day and it’s making me realise what I may want to do with my life.
I have noticed myself becoming more positive and generally happier. Since accessing the programme, I haven’t had a seriously bad mental health episode.
Take every opportunity given to you, even if you think it is out of your comfort zone. Before I had the help that I was provided, I wouldn’t have even imagined that I would be moving away for work and speaking in front of more than 40 people.
