SAS UK take on a London to Amsterdam Cycle

For many years, analytics leader SAS has had a policy of encouraging employees to get involved In charitable activities, either driven through the company sponsored events with its main charity, or through fundraising activities chosen by the individual. In January 2019, SAS carried out a pulse-check of employees to determine whether they wanted to change the established main charity. It was clear from the survey that the employees wanted to support a mental health charity, so a number were shortlisted and put to the vote.

SAS is pleased to announce that Mental Health UK was chosen by the UK employees as the main charity to support from 2019. This is probably a reflection of the growing acceptance that mental health is a problem which affects many families including those of employees. SAS plans to run mental health awareness sessions within the company to help support employees and their families.

To kick off our fundraising program, 13 employees are training hard to prepare for a cycle ride from London to Amsterdam, taking place in July 2019. This gruelling 300-mile journey through Kent, Belgium and the Netherlands will take four days and the team are hoping to raise £20,000 for Mental Health UK. Separately, also in July, we have a team taking part in the Chiltern Challenge, walking 25km to raise more money for the charity.
