Anxiety disorder diagnosis

If your feelings of anxiety are affecting your life, make an appointment to see or speak with your GP. There are so many symptoms of anxiety, which can make it difficult to diagnose or distinguish from other mental health conditions such as depression.

Your GP may ask you questions about the symptoms you are experiencing, your feelings of fear and anxiety as well as your personal life. You may find it difficult to talk to someone about your emotions, but it’s important to try and be honest and open in order for the doctor to make an accurate diagnosis.

You can ask for a phone appointment with your GP if it would be too difficult for you to see them in person.

Your GP may refer you to a mental health specialist for a full assessment. They may also carry out other examinations and tests in order to rule out other conditions.
